Here is the first look at the upcoming Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron concept. When ever a concept is shown, it is really the production version and they will hold the official production announcement for another day to build momentum before this car arrives next year. The first, full-size Audi e-tron has ranked top of class in comparison test and leads sales in its class. In Norway the e-tron is the best seller overall but sales of the Tesla model Y are just starting to arrive in Europe.

The Q4 Stortback e-tron concept is the third all electric Audi after the original e-tron and the GT sport sedan set to arrive soon. This compact utility is the size that people want and built on the shared MEB VW Group platform.

Audi calls this Q meets sportback meets e-tron. The combination of the brands succes.

You can see the sweeping roof at the back, the signature Audi full width tail lamp and an aggressive integrated spoiler that looks good but also improves aerodynamics. The wheel sizes go up to 22-inch. The idea is to have a thin roof with a muscular body and the quattro cues are the fender bulges over each wheel. The front features a closed front grille with black accents on leather side. The daytime running lights are digital and configurable meaning the owner can develop their own signature look. There isn’t much detail on the inside, that information will come when the production model is shown but we know it is a fully connected car with plenty of screens in the cabin, even the shifter is touch sensitive under glass. It certainly builds on the design elements we have seen in modern Audi cars and looks very premium and clean.

The battery information around size, capacity power and range will all be revealed when the full production model is shown but look to other VW group electric cars as a guide. The VW id 4, which is built on the same platform is said to have 300 miles of range but that hasn’t been confirmed either. The current and larger e-tron gets roughly 200 miles on the North American testing cycle. So that is a solid baseline, I’m sure improvements will have been made around range etc.

The Q4 e-tron will go into production in a year from now.

So that is a first look at the upcoming Audi Q4 Sportback e trot. Just a concept for now until we get confirmation of battery spec, interior information and hopefully some seat time.

The original e tron has been a success but I wish we could just get a traditional Audi Q5 styled Q4 e tron and not just this Sportback. I’m sure one is in the works.

So that’s your first look at the Audi Q4.
