👋 In todays head to head comparison, we take a look at the outgoing Subaru WRX and compare it with the all new and redesigned 2022 Subaru WRX! Both of these models are the Premium trim with the six speed manual which is common transmission choice for this family sedan!
For the engine and performance, the 2022 Subaru WRX has a 2.4L compared to the outgoing 2L with a slight bump in horsepower and the same torque! It's a bit faster to 60mph with a slower top speed and aside from that, not much else is different.
The exterior on the all new generation has a wider grill, smaller headlights and more black trim in the lower bumper along with just the fog lights and even a little wider hood scoop for that top mounted intercooler!
The side has the black cladding which I think is the biggest mistake Subaru incorporated into this new design. It looks like an Outback Wilderness edition and I don't think Subaru owners and car enthusiasts really want that look out of this performance sedan. It's not supposed to look rugged and offroady, but that's what we have so it'll be interesting to see how well that design grows on this Subaru WRX.
The rear end doesn't have much of a change aside from the tail lights and the black trim. The cargo space is the same, rear seats are very similar with the addition of the USB ports for the newer model.
The biggest change on the interior is the large infotainment system for the 2022 Subaru WRX! I think that was a must and while it doesn't have a ton of information to go through, it's nice to have that layout and the size!
The driving experience is very identical and the only thing I would say that is different having not been able to drive these back to back on the same day is the clutch feels a lot more smooth on the new model! Not as quick to engage which makes it easier to shift and go through the gears!
Overall it's a nice new change for the Subaru WRX and only time will tell how it'll grow on people and hopefully we see a new update for the Subaru WRX STI!!!!
