Spring Forward and Fall back. That's how the time is moved twice every year in Europe, which is forward by an hour in Spring and then 1 hour back in Fall. In Spring that is at 1am on last Sunday of March and in Fall at 2am on last Sunday in October. Moving the clock forward in Spring is known as Summer time, or British Summer Time or Daylight Saving Time. The main purpose of this is to make better use of daylight.

If you live near the equator, day and night are nearly the same length (12 hours). But elsewhere on Earth, there is much more daylight in summer than in the winter. The closer you live to the North or South Pole, the longer the period of daylight in the summer.
