Balanced meal ideas to help stabilize blood sugar. “Balancing” meals means creating meals with a good ratio of macronutrients (for you). Of course micronutrients are important, but meal-to-meal, we really want to focus on mastering the basics to keep our blood sugar stable & improve satiation — that’s where balanced meals come into play!

In simplest form, a balanced meal looks like combining:
1. protein source
2. a carb source &
3. a fat source

We like using animal proteins, a combo of easy to digest carbs (fruits, roots, turbers, honey, etc.), & a saturated fat. The fat source can often come from the protein source (you don’t need to always go above and beyond to add more fat, unless this is your preference), and some foods are “balanced” already and have all the macros (like whole milk!)

At the very least, it’s a good idea to balance carbs with a protein, and balance protein with carbs. Eating protein alone can raise insulin & cause a drop in blood sugar. Eating carbs alone will cause a rapid rise in blood sugar followed by a sharp decline.

Meal forming is similar to life - the extremes are often not sustainable or healthy. It’s all about balance, folks!
