How free is your movement when your phone is tracking you? Geographer and privacy researcher Dara Seidl traces how phones dictate and constrain the places we visit, then turn around and sell our location data to unexpected buyers. Want to experience a richer sense of place? Try leaving your tracker behind. Dr. Dara Seidl is a geographic information systems (GIS) educator and privacy researcher. She is a graduate of the joint doctoral program in geography between San Diego State University and UC Santa Barbara and leads the GIS certificate program at Colorado Mountain College. An expert in spatial data analysis, Dr. Seidl studies the unexpected flows and consequences of location data sharing, including how location is used to influence our day-to-day behavior. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
