Going over the BMW Drivers Assistance Professional Package ($1700) including Active Driving Assistant Pro and Extended Traffic Jam Assistant. This packages is known as Level 2 Autonomy, and as the name implies, is mean to be an assistant not a no hands system such as Cadillac’s SuperCruise and Tesla’s Autopilot (thought these would likely be closer to Level 3 auto only, although the Society of Automotive Engineers or SAE keeps that category somewhat amorphous and even controversial, but the idea is that the drivers will be able to stop paying any attention to the road under certain driving situations. Vehicles at Level 2 feature advanced driving assistance that manage braking and acceleration as well as lane keeping and lane changing. Please keep in mind that during ALL of these assisted driving situations the driver is mean to maintain attention to the road and supervision over the vehicles operations. This system is by no means driverless autonomous driving.
