What is it like being out on the water in Florida? What is boat life like in Florida?

One of the obvious perks to living in the great state of Florida is the fact that you could be so close to the beach and really be able to enjoy it as mother nature embarks on her seasons; it's truly like being on vacation all year long. The gulf of Mexico offers beautiful, blue, clear water to its patrons and visitors and the weather lets them enjoy it even in January when people are breaking out their winter gear up north.

Boat life is the best life!
When you live so close to the gulf, one of the first things that might cross your mind is "How do I get out on the water?" Well, you buy a boat of course! Or you find a friend who has one (wink face). All along the coast, Florida residents take boating life very seriously.

There is always a party out on the water! One awesome option is to chug along over to the sandbar. When the tide is low, boaters are able to beach their boat and run around and play and party in the middle of the gulf. The Boca Grande causeway is known for its crystal clear, blue, calm waters and many people come to enjoy the area with its iconic railroad trestle backdrop. It was built in 1907 and used to transport phosphates to ships docked in the pass. It was operational all the way up to the 1970s when business began to decline (Torres, 2021). The area is loved by visitors and locals and is a great place for people watching, anchoring up, wading in the water, snorkeling, and partying like you are on your own private island.

This past Memorial Day weekend the gulf saw close to 10,000 people enjoying the water and weather on the sandbar right next to the Boca Grande causeway. Holiday weekends make for a great opportunity to be out on the water to enjoy the long weekend and pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for our country. Memorial Day weekend is also an unofficial marker to the opening of the summer season.

There are many other celebrations on the sandbar throughout the state of Florida, but Boca Grande is definitely one of the best.
