A stripping crew is brought in to strip off the overburden at Martin Marietta's New Harvey Sand near Des Moines, Iowa. The overburden varies in depth depending on location. Once the overburden is stripped off and the sand is exposed, water begins seeping in from the river and forms a pond, allowing the dredge to be moved in.
