Todd White: was Jesus fully God? (the Kenosis debate)

The way we define Kenosis has such a massive impact on our Christology that it can determine whether you are ignorant, a heretic, or an orthodox Christian. For those who claim that Christ performed healings and exorcisms through his divinity come dangerously close to subordinationism (partial-Arianism). Because the bible says Christ was empowered by the Spirit to perform miracles, if these miracles were done through Christ divinity it would logically suggest that Christ divine nature was lacking and needed the empowerment of the Spirit.

If we error on the other side we come dangerously close to full-blown Arianism. because if we say Jesus stopped being God then you have a person of the trinity that does not share in the same essence (homoousios) as the Father and the Spirit. Furthermore if the Christ Jesus did everything as a man our salvation is in jeopardy, for only God can forgive sins, and only the infinite value of God's sacrificial death on the cross would be sufficient to atone for the sins of the World.

How we describe the hypostatic union (Christ being fully God and Fully Man) is an essential Christian doctrine that has been believed and practiced by every Christian for the past 2,000 Years.
