A large number of academics are being affected by mental health issues such as anxiety and depression, yet, the topic is rarely discussed in an open manner. In this video, we want to increase awareness on the topic of mental health in graduate studies.

Presentation by:
Dr. Matt Hanson has been working in college student mental health at the University for nearly 18 years. He currently serves as the Assistant Director of the Mental Health Clinic at Boynton, and prior to that he was a senior psychologist at Student Counseling Services and Director for the Student Academic Success Services program. He co-chairs the Provost's Committee on Student Mental Health, is clinical supervisor for Boynton's de-stress peer helper program, and is affiliate faculty in the Department of Educational psychology at the U and in the Counseling and Psychological Services program at St. Mary's University.

Dave Golden, who is Director of Public Health and Communications at Boynton Mental Health Clinic at the University of Minnesota.

And Prof. Philippe Buhlmann, who is a 3M alumni professor of chemistry at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. He runs an active research program in the development of chemical sensors, has published over 130 scientific articles, and has been collaborating with several companies to transfer the technology developed in his research group into the real world. In 2015, he was elected into the Academy of Distinguished Teachers. Since 2012, he has been serving as director of graduate studies for the chemistry program, which has over 240 graduate students, mostly on track to the PhD. One of Buhlmann's key goals as director of graduate studies is to appropriately and openly address stress and mental issues in graduate education.
