Our heart, the cone-shaped organ is actually a complete workaholic. Throughout our lifetime, it tirelessly pumps oxygen and nutrient-rich blood to all our body parts.

The heart is divided into four chambers. The upper chambers are called atria, while the lower chambers are called ventricles.

From different body parts, blood enters the left atrium and then moves into right ventricles. Right ventricles pumps the blood to lungs to purify it. After purification, oxygenated blood enters left atrium and then moves down to left ventricle. Left ventricle finally pumps oxygenated blood to the entire body.

The blood circulation between the heart and lungs is called pulmonary circulation, while the circulation between the heart and body parts is called systemic circulation. Since the blood flows twice through the heart in one circuit, it is called double circulation.
