It’s not every day you make an over 100-million-year-old find at work, but Suncor employee Jenna Plamondon can now say she has. While operating a hydraulic shovel at our Mildred Lake Mine, a contrast in the oil sand caught her eye. What she saw turned out to be Alberta’s oldest fossil remains of a marine reptile known as a plesiosaur. Geologists at the mine and the Royal Tyrrell Museum were called in, and the fossil was plastered and transported to the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller, Alta.
