I left my videography and photography one year ago. I was booking clients and making money, but I had lost the art. When your hobby becomes your job, you lose your hobby. It's hard to believe but at times success can be your greatest weakness. I had grown the business I wanted, but somehow I had lost myself.

The beginning of my season of art led me to the word Solas. Solas is the art of creating alone. It allowed me to believe that I could create all by myself. For so many years social media has led me to deal with comparison as a photographer. As much as I loved photography, I craved something less digital.

As I distanced from the business I found myself shooting film photography again. I started to feel deeper emotions, and I began to write poetry.

This journey of becoming an artist again was all about freedom. What would happen if I got lost? Where would it lead? Who would I become? These were all questions that I asked myself along the way.

The freer I became I somehow realized that I wanted to experiment with abstract art. In previous seasons, I had admired artists but had never considered my photography to be the same. As I continue to create, I'll pause to create encouraging videos along the way. We can create alone and still be in community together.

No matter where you are in life, I hope these videos encourage you to create again. Embrace the fear of creating and allow yourself to dream again!
