Sir Mark Walport, Government Chief Scientific Adviser, introduces the IPCC Climate Change 2013 Physical Science Basis report (Royal Society, London, October 2013)

On 27 September 2013, the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published the first part of the Fifth Assessment Report. The report, Climate Change 2013: The Physical Science Basis, assesses the scientific aspects of the climate system and climate change. It is the most comprehensive assessment of the science of climate change ever undertaken. At a special event held on 1 October 2013 at the Royal Society in London, Government Chief Scientific Adviser, Sir Mark Walport FRS introduced the report and described the policy context and communication challenge of climate change.
