Whether you are a beginner and just want to get a few fresh riffs together or you are experienced but you still need to learn more about open string licks - then this lesson will be great for you.
The first step is to train your awareness for adding in open strings that fit with the key of each chord played. The second is you need to get yourself trained on cross picking or finger-plucking to each open note so they resonant well. This sound will only happen with a commitment to these picking techniques.
In this lesson, I’m going to show you a perfect approach for you to begin adding open string licks around the chords of a key. Whether you are a beginner or more advanced this will only take you about 5 minutes to complete.
Each of the five licks shown in Part One of the lesson can be learned in around one minute apiece. If you find that these licks are even easier to learn than that, then work them into a few improvised solo ideas right away.
The first thing you will notice is that all the licks are based around playing open strings of the key whenever you can. So, learn the lesson examples then be sure to add them into your favorite progressions right away. The easiest way to approach their use is by paying attention to natural notes of the key.
