How to do a Forward-Leaning Inversion | The Forward Leaning Inversion is most commonly used to turn a baby that is head-up (which is breech) or sideways (also known as transverse lie). In this video, I share an excerpt from our updated video on how to turn a baby head down preparing for delivery featuring a demonstration on how to properly and safely complete the forward leaning inversion preparing for labor.

The Forward Leaning Inversion, along with the extra help of gravity, helps create room in the lower uterus, so the baby can turn. It isn't the inversion that helps baby move head down- it is going back up from the inversion that is the secret to turning the baby. I've researched that moms should not do the forward-leaning inversion if you have high blood pressure or extra amniotic fluid, heartburn at the time, glaucoma, or have an increased risk of a stroke.

Do not do the forward-leaning inversion if you are aware of any other pregnancy complications, such as the cord wrapped around baby’s neck. It is normal for your head to pound a little when you are head down, but if you have any unexpected pain, safely come out of the position. Do not stay head down for more than 30 seconds. I recommend talking with your doctor to ensure this is safe for you and baby before doing this exercise.
