When Russel T Davies revived the long running British sci fi classic Doctor Who in 2005, he introduced a new generation of fans for the being from Gallifrey with the blue box that’s bigger on the inside and travels through space and time. Building off the show that had run from 1963 to 1989 and the movie in the 90s, Doctor Who carried over all of the mythos and development of the show. That includes the Doctor’s ability to regenerate after death, his two hearts, his police box time machine the TARDIS, and his penchant for collecting companions to join him on his adventures. Old enemies like the Daleks, Cybermen, and the Master joined new enemies that would become just as iconic like the Weeping Angels and the Silence. Since the show returned there have been five actors who have portrayed generations of the Doctor including Jodi Whittaker as the first woman to carry the sonic screwdriver. With twelve seasons of the show now in the books, so-called New Who is starting to get as nearly as complicated a history as its classic tv cousin. As the thirteenth season goes into production it might be time for new and old fans alike to take a walk down memory lane and see what’s happened so far in the adventures of the rogue Time Lord and their Gallifreyan time machine. Here’s’ a brief overview of the highlights from the last 12 seasons of Doctor Who.
