The MotoGP race that took place in Jerez over the weekend was unquestionably evidence that a race's quality is not determined by the sheer number of overtakes. A good race should give the viewer the impression that an overtake is possible and that the individual being overtaken has the opportunity to either resist or respond to the overtake. An outcome with this balance is unpredictable.

The Spanish Grand Prix took place on Sunday and featured nine lead changes. That's not an absurd sum, and not every one of those was an honest mistake. On laps two, twenty-one, and twenty-two, Bagnaia and Marquez made the only five valid passes for the lead, four of which occurred at the same two corners.
