Is an energy efficient home worth it? If you've ever wondered this, I'm sharing the data from my own home. I built a 6000sf home, and employed several methods to increase energy efficiency. The home was built with Insulated Concrete Forms, the basement slab has insulation under it, and the hvac is a ground source heat pump (geothermal). All of this has resulted in reduced energy bills every single month.
