When it comes to getting "Deep Work" done, the secret is to tap into your brain's alpha waves for intense focus, concentration and productivity.

Your brain goes through several wavelengths throughout the day. Beta, Alpha, Theta & Delta.

Beta is an active, walking, talking brainwave.
Alpha is a much slower sin(e) wave, where brain activity actually slows down creating a more focused, singular-minded "flow" in your work.
Theta is deeper hypnosis and Delta is deep sleep that most people only achieve 20-60 minutes a night.

My favorite way to get into alpha is to have the Calm.com app open to the rainfall setting. When it's loud enough that I can't hear errant thoughts, it's perfect.

The idea of deep work was most recently written about by Cal Newport in his book of the same name (Deep Work). In a nutshell, the idea is that you are absolutely NOT able to multi-task. Your brain is only working on one thing at a time. When you think you're multi-tasking, you're actually attempting to multi-focus which isn't something your brain can do.

To get to deep work as I suggest in this video, consider leveraging tools that help you get into an alpha state which allow you to become hyper-focused on the task at hand. The simplest way to do this is to listen to ambient music or nature sounds (like rainfall). Typically, music that has no lyrics is best and ideally that which is recorded in an alpha wave.

You can find these kinds of tracks by searching for 'Alpha Wave Music' on Spotify or Pandora, or by listening to artists like Steven Halpern. His Alpha Wave Music album is my go-to for getting focused on a plane, for zoning out while doing busy work, and for writing content. I'm especially creative when Steven Halpern is playing lightly in my ears.

Good luck finding your alpha waves and getting the most done possible in the shortest amount of time.
