The 2024 Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Coupe arrives as the new entry point to AMG's coupe lineup, replacing both the C-Class and E-Class AMG Coupes. It blends the performance and agility of the former with the spaciousness and luxury of the latter into one stylish package. And with 443 horsepower from its turbocharged mild-hybrid inline-six, it has the muscle to back up its racy looks.

Stylistically, the CLE 53 Coupe wears a familiar AMG design with its long hood, sharp nose, flared fenders, and sloping roofline. The overall look is aggressive yet elegant, with prominent power domes, large air intakes, and quad exhaust tips hinting at the performance beneath. The CLE 53's dimensions actually stretch slightly longer than the old E-Class Coupe to provide a more spacious cabin.

That cabin carries over the high-tech, high-class vibe from the standard CLE, with its curved glass displays, ambient lighting, and premium materials. AMG adds its own unique touches like sport seats, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and performance displays. Overall, the CLE 53's cabin is a nice place to spend time, even if rear seat space is rather tight.

Under the hood is AMG's latest version of the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, now producing 443 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque. An electric compressor and mild-hybrid assist contribute to the power gains. AMG says the CLE 53 will hit 60 mph in around 4.0 seconds, which is properly quick. The nine-speed automatic and 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system put the power down with ease.

Out on the road, the CLE 53 Coupe feels every bit the AMG. The powertrain is responsive, with almost endless thrust on tap once you get the turbo spooled up. The steering is precise and well-weighted, allowing you to attack corners with confidence. And despite the coupe's larger dimensions, it feels nimble and easy to place thanks to the rear-axle steering.

However, the CLE 53's most impressive trait may be its duality of personality. Keep things in Comfort mode and it's a serene grand tourer. But toggle into Sport+ and it transforms into a snarling performance machine, with sharper responses from the engine, transmission, suspension, and even the exhaust note. It's two very distinct driving experiences in one vehicle.

With a base price likely to start around $75,000, the 2024 Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Coupe fills an interesting niche between traditional sports coupes and larger grand tourers. It has the power, poise, and presence to satisfy enthusiast drivers, but also provides the comfort, tech, and space to work as a daily driver. That duality of purpose is part of what makes AMG's new entry coupe so compelling.
