The fifth-generation Toyota RAV4 is already a solid car. And when you add the hybrid drivetrain to it, it becomes even better. However, it is slowly starting to age, which means that it is time for the automaker to think of upgrading it. The good news is that we expect Toyota to give the entire RAV4 an overhaul, with a major redesign coming in 2025.
At the moment, we can only hope that the redesign addresses some of the current RAV4 Hybrid’s inadequacies. For example, right now, Toyota’s electrified SUV is not as fun compared to some of its segment rivals. In addition, some people have noticed that the suspension is a bit bouncier than it is supposed to be. When you consider the RAV4’s off-road trims, they are sometimes for looks only without anything really out of the ordinary.
It is without a doubt that the gasoline versions of the Toyota RAV4 lack some refinement. However, the RAV4 Hybrid remains a strong option in its segment. If the next-generation SUV were to capture some of the magic that comes with the recently redesigned Prius, the RAV4 Hybrid might be in great shape for the foreseeable future.
Just as we have said before, the 2025 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid might come with a new and improved powertrain. For the 2024 model year, Toyota will equip the RAV4 Hybrid with a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine, which will be paired with two electric motors. These will send most of the power to a standard all-wheel-drive system through a CVT. With this, the 2024 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid will be capable of producing up to 219 horsepower.
We can expect the 2025 Toyota RAV4 to come with an updated powertrain. And if this were to happen, there is a possibility that the automaker will poach the unit that motivates the next-generation 2025 Camry. With the setup on this Camry, it is said to produce about 225 horsepower for the front-wheel drive version and an incredible 232 horsepower for the all-wheel drive variant. With this setup, the new RAV4 Hybrid could become a little faster compared to the previous model. As for the fuel economy, it might remain the same. And if it were to be increased, maybe slightly.
When it comes to driver assistance equipment, we expect the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite to make an appearance.
When we consider the 2025 Toyota Camry as our reference to how the 2025 RAV4 Hybrid will be, some of the available equipment for higher trims will likely include traffic jam assist, front cross-traffic alert, lane change assist, and a 360-degree camera. We also anticipate that the 2025 RAV4 Hybrid will also offer front and rear parking assistance with automatic braking capability.
On the tech side, the 2025 RAV4 Hybrid is going to be a spectacular car. It should come with bigger screens and more tech than the previous generation model, given how much technology is changing nowadays. With the way things are going, we can expect the lower trims to offer Toyota’s 8.0- or 10.5-inch touchscreens. For the higher grades, the RAV4 could come with the 14.0-inch infotainment setup that is available on the Lexus NX, which shares a platform with Toyota’s SUV. We might also see a digital instrument cluster on most RAV4 models as everything changes.
Given all the changes that we expect to see on the 2025 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, there is a very high likelihood that even the exterior will change. Toyota might decide to give it a more luxurious design, changing the way it looks. This redesigning might also extend to the interior, where, in addition to the new infotainment system, they might add more luxurious touches.
