My once-in-a-lifetime exploration of Isfahan, Iran, continued with visits to a pair of spots that each sell an iconic Iranian dish! Come with me as we try two famous Persian dishes in Isfahan, Iran!

Mr. Taster and I began our adventure at Haj Mahmoud Beryani. They sell a dish called beryani, which contains mutton, sheep lungs, meat juice, and more. It’s insane!

They take a lamb patty and minced lung and wrap it in flatbread. The lamb patty contains cinnamon, saffron, and parsley. The food smelled unbelievable! They also added onion, tomatoes, meat juice, and more.

I couldn’t get over how incredible the aroma was! The bread and the meat juice in the first dish blew my mind. I loved the texture. It was so unreal that I could have eaten several bowls of it! We added some basil, which enhanced the flavor even more. It was heaven in a bowl!

Next was the beryani! Tehe fried lamb patty was crispy on the outside and had a bit of sweetness from the cinnamon. The patty, lungs, saffron, cinnamon, and bread was the perfect combination. I also loved the meatiness and fattiness, and pairing it with the basil, sangak bread, lemon juice, and onions took it to a whole other level.

This was probably one of my favorite dishes I’ve ever had while traveling. I’m already a big lamb guy, but this was lamb on steroids! It made me so happy. Now I understood why Mr. Taster had been talking about this dish all day! It was my number one dish in the country now, even ahead of kale pache!

You should visit this place early, as they usually sell out by 2 p.m. Right outside is a bazaar, and then we drove 20 minutes to another local spot to try khoresht mast, which is a unique dessert that contains yogurt, rose water, sugar, egg yolks, turmeric, saffron, and crushed lamb neck meat!

They start off with yogurt and mix in the minced lamb until it becomes a thick, elastic paste. Then, they add saffron to another batch of yogurt, add honey, and then they mix the two batches!

We got to try some of the yogurt with honey. It tasted so delicious! This is how I like my yogurt. It was so fresh and tasty, and the lamb throughout was unreal!
