The Idahoan shares his paraphrase of the 73rd psalm.

Lyrics:

Oh, God, forgive my foolishness,
My wand’ring feet and eyes,
For though I sought for righteousness,
I envied those who God and right despise!

For the wicked seem so strong and sure,
Ev’rything they do returns great gain,
Their abundant wealth and health endure,
The never suffer shame nor pain.

They surround themselves with violence,
And corruption marks their course,
They adorn themselves with arrogance,
And oppression they endorse.

They exalt themselves throughout the earth,
And the powers of Heaven defy,
While I myself was plagued by dearth,
And yet refrained to lift my cry,
Lest my complaint should e’er offend,
Anyone who passes by!

It seems from sin I refrain in vain,
And bare the Lord’s chastening for naught,
For the wicked never bear such pain,
And good fortune ever is their lot—
Oh, my soul was anguished at the thought!

But then God showed their end to me,
And caused me truth to understand,
When I came into His sanctuary,
And knelt beneath His mighty hand.

The prosperity of wicked men,
Is but a fleeting dream:
Anxious fears e’er torment them,
Though strong and confident they seem.

They trap themselves in wicked ways,
Sliding ever deeper into the pit,
Until they reach their end of days,
And stand before God’s judgement seat!
Ev’ry boast and scheme then them betrays,
And utter destruction they meet!

And so I stood deeply ashamed,
For like a stupid beast,
I glimpsed the wicked and assumed,
Their transient fortune would persist!

Thank you, Lord, for bearing with me,
And counseling me in Thy truth,
For upholding my soul continually,
And continually nurturing my faith.

I depend on You alone, oh Lord,
To sustain me here on earthly soil,
Your power to me doth strength afford,
Though all my fleshly strength should fail!

When my course on earth comes to an end,
To glory you’ll receive my soul,
For on You alone in Heav’n I depend!
Your deeds abroad I will forth tell,
Rejoicing that you condescend,
To let me in your presence dwell!
