Napoleon Hill surely was not the first man to be appalled at the poverty and seemingly perpetual struggle and lack of direction he observed about him as a youngster and as a young man, nor was he the first to write on the subject. He did, however, have two uncommon, highly developed qualities that are rarely combined in one man. The first difference was in how he addressed his topic. Napoleon Hill searched for the solutions to success in the same way a scientist searches for a natural secret to be revealed to the light of reason. He pursued the answer to success in the same way that Thomas Edison found the answer to the problem of electric light: tirelessly, indefatigably, and perfectly, until the truth that had always been there was revealed.

His second key ability was the capacity to communicate his discoveries in a way that was not only immediately comprehended intellectually but also, and perhaps more importantly for this specific subject, emotionally.

The explanation for why Think and Grow Rich has withstood the test of time is because it is built on the same broad, plain foundation that all human achievement can be found, namely the undisputed truth that everything starts with an idea. A way of thinking that is based on the idea that all forms of wealth start in the mind. That one might begin with nothing more than ideas, plans, and thoughts.

Thoughts are things, incredibly powerful things when mixed with definiteness of purpose, persistence, and a burning desire, for their translation into material objects or riches, riches being whatever it is you happen to want.
