First, we need to actually recover the data off of our D drive or the D partition, in order to protect our data from being lost or overwritten. To do that, we are going to be using a data recovery tool called Disk Drill.
Disk Drill is the software suite that we need to get this task done. It includes all the tools you need to recover, but also protect and optimize your data to the fullest, regardless of the scenario that you're in. Specifically, it will allow us to scan for files that we cannot physically see inside Windows Explorer, which is key in this situation because we actually can't physically see or access our D Drive.

📌 To recover data from the disappeared D drive:
1. Download and install Disk Drill.
2. Select your D drive in the disk list.
3. Click the Search for lost data button to initiate scanning.
4. Select the files (photos, music files, videos, documents, etc.) you wish to restore and click Recover.
5. Choose a recovery location. Make sure that your recovery location is not a D drive.
6. Click next and complete the recovery procedure.

Once we recovered our data from the missing D drive, we can proceed to the different methods to restore the drive functionality on Windows 10 and 11 PC after the Windows update or in case it just not showing up.

Method 1: Rescanning Disk
To do that:
1. Hit (Windows key + X) and click Disk Management.
2. Select the drive you want to rescan. Then, click Action, Rescan Disks.
3. Wait until the rescanning is complete.

Method 2: Update Your Drivers
To do that:
1. Hit (Windows key + X) and click Device Manager.
2. Expand the Disk drives option and right-click your drive, Update driver.
3. In the pop-up, select Search Automatically For the Drivers.

Method 3: Unhide Partition Using GPedit
To do that:
1. Hit (Windows key + R).
2. Type GPEDIT.MSC in the text field. Then, click OK.
3. On the left sidebar, click User Configuration, Administrative Templates. Then choose Windows Components.
4. From the list, click File Explorer.
5. Click Hide These Specified Drives in My Computer.
6. If you find any hidden drives, select Disabled in the top-left corner of the window. Then, click Apply, then Okay.

Method 4: Change or Assign a Drive Letter
To do that:
1. Hit (Windows key + X) and click Disk Management.
2. Right-click on the unassigned drive. From the drop-down list, choose Change Drive Letter and Paths.
3. Click Add.
4. Using the dropdown button, select the letter you want to assign to your drive. Then, click OK to apply the changes.

Method 5: Restore the Entire System
To do that:
1. Open Control Panel, System and Security. Then, click System.
2. Scroll down until seeing Advanced System Settings under the Related Settings section.
3. Navigate to the System Protection tab, then click System Restore.
4. From the list, choose a restore point dated before your D drive went missing. Then, click Next.
5. From here, follow the wizard until you are prompted to restart. You may want to click Scan for affected programs if you suspect that an app caused your D drive to go missing. Once your system is rebooted, it should be restored to the state it was when the restore point was created.

There are plenty of reasons why D Drive is not showing up. Faulty OS update, physical damage, hard drive corruption, or it can suddenly become hidden. I hope that these methods can help you to solve the problem.
