In this video I talk about the ethics of automating jobs. If we have the ability to completely replace someone's job with a machine should we?

I argue that automation frees humans to do things that are more representative of the human spirit. ...doing a soulless repetitive task day after day is not representative of the human spirit... So automation is good.

However, in order to prevent the other problems, such as unemployment and homelessness we have to revamp the education system.

In the first half I talk about why automation is good.

In the second half, starting at 9:33, I talk about how I think schools need to be improved to prevent unemployment and homelessness.

0:00 Intro

0:21 Why I am making this video... because people attack companies that automate... but from my perspective they are helping... the real problem is the education system.

1:45 Why is automation a good thing? It frees us up to do things that are more representative of the human spirit.

2:16 Maslow's hierarchy of needs... as a way of showing who our "true self is" and how automation gives us more time to be that.

5:00 How civilizations become more cultured with automation.

8:22 There's no limit to how many people we can fit in the arts and "self-actulatized-industries". What is required is simply that people have the time to participate... which is what automation allows us.

9:33 If automation is so great... then what about homelessness? From my perspective the problem is the school system because it trains people to not listen to their own creativity... but reflexive to authority... aka behave like robots... and now we actually have robots!! and humans can not compete with robots who don't need to eat sleep, etc.

10:33 Broadly speaking, most schools focus on getting people to follow commands... You have a standardized uniform, a bell, a textbook with "a right answer". Which is valuable when we need factory workers jobs... but doesn't prepare people for the 21st century when all of this stuff is automated. Instead what we need is people to think for themselves...

13:00 From my perspective, school need to focus on teaching people how to create commands via critical thinking and ethics...

13:33 Programming is an essential skill because it's how we interface with robots and computers... who is the 21st century "labor force".

14:40 Being in a place of power require critical thinking... Coding teaches you how to critically think.

15:54 Metaphor of being the king of an empire... and needing critical thinking. Otherwise the empire crumbles.

17:15 Power is not good or bad... it's how we use it... Electricity metaphor... now that the average person has more power... we need to teach them how to use it responsibly.

18:00 We also need to focus on ethics... or the ability for looking out for the needs of the whole... who ultimately is us. This doesn't necessarily mean being "nice".

19:19 We should also focus on simulation environments... where people can discover their own right answer instead of a textbook's "right answer". Especially with VR headsets... we can make it so it truly resembles true "experience". Where people get to use and exercise their own critical thinking.

22:10 We have all these powerful tools for communication and broadcast... but we're not teaching people how to handle this power.

22:22 Outro of why we need this new education to thrive in the 21st century.
