Melbourne's Hurstbridge line is a 38km suburban railway line, running from the city out to the scenic Diamond Valley in the north-east suburbs. The line is 1600mm Broad Gauge and electrified at 1500v DC. In the video I talk through the line's many interesting features from the city out to the terminus. All photographs and video are taken by Martin Bennet (that's me), I also do the writing, narration, and diagrams. The only content in this video not made by me are a couple of scans from the 1927 Victorian Railways 'Curves and Grades' book, one from the 1945 VR passenger network map, and the google maps screenshots.

At the end of the video I mention you can travel on this line by steam train during the Hurstbridge Wattle Festival, usually in August or September. You can check here for details of the next one: https://www.steamrail.com.au/

For a full length diagram on the line and more details on historical dates etc, visit the Vicsig line guide page here: https://vicsig.net/infrastructure/lin...

My voiceover in this video was recorded with the assistance of my brother Cian, who happens to be a sound recordist and musician. Check out his music here: https://hyperfollow.com/cianbennetmusic
