Weekly Economic Outlook 55 - Andrew Hilton's take on everything from Andy Haldane's departure to Alexei Navalny's hunger strike

Why you should watch: Although it is pretty clear that the global economy is emerging from the Covid tunnel (albeit the US is emerging faster than the EU, with the UK somewhere in between and the emerging markets well behind the curve), it is emerging into a world in which geopolitical risks are increasing almost by the day. The situation in the Ukraine may be top of mind, but don't forget Taiwan - or Iran. Or Kashmir. Or Latin America, where Peru and Brazil could easily blow. There is also real concern closer to home that the Greensill affair (now the Greensill/Gupta affair) could envelop the Tory party in new allegations of sleaze - not good with local elections coming up and with a unilateral call for another Scottish referendum on independence looking more and more likely. As for the US political scene, Democrats are still feeling their oats - and the Supreme Court is the next target they have in mind.

In his Weekly Economic Outlook, Andrew Hilton, the CSFI’s Director, discusses the current crisis, its impact on the global economy, and what we may be missing.

Andrew is a former World Bank economist, who also ran a small economic consultancy advising international clients, particularly in the Middle East. He has an MA from New College, Oxford, an MBA from Wharton, and an MA and PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Thouron Scholar and Kent Fellow.
