It’s time to return to the world of Panem with Suzanne Collins’ new prequel novel, “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.” With a title like that, we’re already excited to dive deep into the new book, but that’s not all: Lionsgate has already picked up the soon-to-be-released novel to be turned into a movie! The prequel, which takes place 64 years before the first Hunger Games book, will show us an entirely new-- well, technically old-- version of the games, Panem, and the lives of citizens living under the rule of the Capitol. But it might be hard to route for the star of the show, because the prequel will focus on none other than President Snow. That’s right, the new novel will follow the soon-to-be villain at 18-years old as he’s tasked with mentoring a tribute for the 10th Annual Hunger Games. But Collins has her reasons for wanting to get into the head of a major villain, and Coriolanus Snow isn’t the only character from the original trilogy making a return.

The new movie will also feature a familiar feline-faced shop owner who just so happens to be the
President’s cousin. It’ll also mark the on-screen debut of a tribute known as “The Beast”, who we’re both terrified and excited to see on the big screen. And with Suzanne Collins writing the screenplay, we’re about to get a look at the history of Panem like never before.
