The Tesla Cybertruck has finally started making its way to customer hands. These fresh deliveries are still not in high quantities yet, but for the first time, we can finally get our hands on, talk about and review these customer vehicles outside the cover of the Tesla curtain.

Although I have had the privilege of seeing and touching the Tesla Cybertruck several times in the last year, I have yet to have the chance to drive the beast, at least until now!

There are a few things that stand out almost immediately when you drive the new Cybertruck, its big, its fast, its comfortable, its quiet and it drives incredibly smooth. These driving characteristics make the Cybertruck a bit of a unicorn, not just from the looks but the fact that its smoother and quieter than a Model X, seems to turn tighter than a Model Y, and still feels and acts like a truck.

So how did Tesla do this? A truck should feel and drive like a truck, which the Cybertruck does, but it's not supposed to drive like a sports car, which it also does. Designing a vehicle from the ground up, without the constraints of existing platforms gave the Cybertruck a chance to be unlike anything before it, and it sure delivers.

That doesn't mean it comes without faults. First and foremost, it is expensive. The Dual Motor, or AWD Cyberturck starts at $79k, and $99k for the Cyberbeast, or the Tri-Motor version. But if you want it anytime soon, you will have to get it in the Founders Series, which is a package of an additional $20k of add ons.

For that money, you get up to 340 miles of range, as quick as 2.6 sec 0-60, and gobs of towing capability. Although these numbers are ok on the surface, this is not what we had been expecting over these last 4 years, and thats really where the Cybertruck has its biggest flaw.

When the Cybertruck was announced, it was expected to come in at $49k for the AWD and $69k for the Tri-Motor. This would get you 300 miles in dual motor, and 500+ miles in the tri-motor. Add in the RWD version with 250 miles range and a sticker price of $39k, the Cybertruck was going to be the best value by a mile in the Truck market.

Unfortunately the price has come up significantly and range did not deliver. The mid range truck that was expected to be $49k now starts $30k more at $79k. That gets you up to 40 more miles than expected, but the Tri-Motor is also $30k more than announced and gets almost 200 miles less range than expected.

Now, that all said, the Cybertruck isn't insanely priced at $79k, in fact, once you factor in the tax credit, the Dual Motor at 340 miles range gives you quite a bit more truck than a premium gas alternative. That means that in my opinion, the price is actually market price and right, it's just that the truck that was promised was not a market truck, it was an unbeatable value.

Once you get beyond the price, and assuming the Dual Motor was your intended configuration, the Cybertruck has so much to offer and most people will appreciate how sophisticated this Cybertruck really is. The ability to make changes on the screen that change its performance on and off road make this a true chameleon.

One thing is for sure, once Tesla gets the Cybertruck production line up and running at capacity, and they are offering the truck without the foundation series designation, the Cybertruck is likely to sell very well in the next several years. What happens after that is yet to be seen, but it is likely to change the industry forever, and for the good.
