Only reason why I'm putting up the Mets broadcast of their humiliating exit from the 1988 NLCS is because it was also the end of an era in Mets broadcasting as the final one to feature the team of Bob Murphy and Gary Thorne. Thorne had been hired in 1985 to replace the fired Steve LaMar as Murphy's partner and together they formed an effective team that broadcast arguably the greatest era in Mets history. But Thorne's dual responsibility as the TV voice of the New Jersey Devils hockey team caused friction with Mets management when he had to miss some games when the Devils went far into the 1988 playoffs and in the end, he lost his job in the Mets radio booth which opened the door for Gary Cohen's hiring in the 1989 season. Thorne would ultimately return to the Mets as a TV voice in the late 90s for a few years but would work primarily with the Orioles afterwards, in addition to continuing as an outstanding hockey commentator on ESPN/ABC and baseball for ABC (1989) and ESPN (starting in 1990).

Recorded from WPTR-Albany, NY so the broadcast ends with Thorne's postgame show and does not feature the Howie Rose WFAN postgame show.
