Fishing for Roe’s abalone along the Perth coastline will begin on Sunday 1 November, for a one-hour fishing period between 7 am and 8 am.

Thousands of recreational fishers with the required licence are expected to search for the popular shellfish on reef platforms in the West Coast Zone, which includes the metropolitan coast and other fishing areas between Moore River and Busselton Jetty.

Abalone fishing access only occurs on the first Sunday of each month, November to March. But as Roe’s abalone stocks have been in decline in recent years, mostly as a result of environmental factors, catches will be monitored to determine if the season needs to be shortened to protect abalone stocks.
