Major Trailer Brake Issue with 2023/2024 GM Trucks!

A client reached out with a trailer brake issue while towing their Grand Design RV with their 2024 Chevy 3500 dually. The issue they were experiencing was while driving down the road the truck would disconnect the trailer brakes. A message would pop up on the instrument cluster stating, "Trailer Brakes Disconnected." This is obviously a major issue because, without the trailer brakes, the stopping power is solely on the truck, and therefore the stopping distance increases. This also increases the chance of overheating the truck brakes, leading to a loss of brakes altogether. When you are towing 20K lbs or more you want all the stopping power you can get!

The question was, is it a truck or trailer problem, and what is the resolution? Watch the video to see how I was able to diagnose and replicate the issue.

Apparently, this is a known issue with 2023 and 2024 GM trucks. If you have one of these trucks and are experiencing an issue, contact your nearest Chevy/ GM dealer to have your truck inspected.
