British Police are pursuit specialists - widely recognised as some of the best trained operators in the world – what do they know that the rest of us don’t ??

I recently headed to Blyton Park Circuit with my good friend, Police Interceptor to put both UK and US police interceptor vehicles through their paces and find out exactly how they differ when pushed to the limit. This time around, it was the UK’s chance to shine, with the mighty BMW 530d. Ben showed me some of the trade secrets from the ‘Boys in Blue’ as I began to get to grips with this powerful and torquey German saloon.

Equipment is just part of the story and I’ve always wanted to try out a real British cop car. I’ve driven a few over the years doing stunt jobs in the movies, but never a current pursuit car like the ones on Channel 5’s Police Interceptors – and not with one of the most seasoned Pursuit specialists sitting alongside me.

In his Hey-Day, Ben Pearson (@BenPearson1965) was engaged in three Police Pursuits EVERY WEEK in West Yorkshire.. Can you imagine the stress of waking up every morning to a more than 50% chance of being the grown up in a high speed, life and death game of poker..

I really enjoyed picking up Ben’s insights from his career and small things he knows instinctively – like the best car for jumping speed bumps – as well as his no nonsense approach to Roadcraft which is the gospel of Police Driving Skills.

I hope you enjoy this video and if you’ve got any suggestions for which Police force I should go for a drive with next please let me know in the comments 😊

Huge thanks to Ben for the great chat and guidance throughout the day. Stay tuned for the next episode where it’s the US’ turn, with a very special Ford Explorer…
