The Ford F-Series stands proud as the best-selling truck in the world, and as long as that’s true, the F-150 will be Ford’s crown jewel and golden goose. It may start at prices less than $30,000, but shoppers looking for luxury can easily find one at double that price.

But General Motors has its own loyal fan club, and for them, the equally impressive Chevy Silverado 1500 remains a compelling choice. GM buyers who want the kind of luxury offered by an F-150 Limited can browse the GMC Sierra 1500 lineup.

While the Ram 1500 has historically been seen as the third wheel in America’s truck wars, late-model 1500s have stood out thanks to more comfortable rides, impressive tech, and innovative features.

And although the Nissan Titan can’t match Ford, GM, or Ram’s total sales figures, this pickup truck has finally emerged as a worthy alternative. With a muscular V8 and a new 9-speed transmission, the new Titan can really haul.

For shoppers thinking small, the Toyota Tacoma has long been the bullet-proof choice. In production since 1995, the Tacoma can range from bare-bones transportation to a legitimately superb off-roader.

That said, if off-road is where you’re headed, consider the Jeep Gladiator. In case the visual similarities to the Jeep Wrangler didn’t make it obvious, the Gladiator was engineered as much for overland adventures as it was for towing and hauling.

But the Gladiator doesn’t come cheap. The Ford Ranger may be relatively new to the United States, but this pickup truck has been working hard overseas for more than a few years. While that means it won’t be the newest and best option, it also means that this truck can provide plenty of capability at a relatively low price.

Similarly, the Chevrolet Colorado has started to look a little long in the tooth. But this midsize pickup sports an affordable price tag, and its ZR2 trim is a veritable mountain goat off-road.

But what if your pickup truck is destined for lighter work and long highway miles? In those cases, the Honda Ridgeline looks like a good option. It's not a body-on-frame truck, so it will ride smoother on-road, and its nifty storage solutions have won it plenty of praise.
