The Palomar Knot is a very simple and strong fishing knot for tying a line to a hook as long as it is tied properly. This is an exceptional knot for attaching braided line and very good for tying mono and fluorocarbon lines. It is important to never cross the lines over each other that run through the hook eye because on monofilament and fluorocarbon lines the top line will press down on the bottom line causing the knot to break more easily. The Palomar Knot is more forgiving on braided fishing lines.

Always moisten your line with saliva or water before pulling tight. This is especially important on fluorocarbon lines that are easily damaged by heat from friction.

1. Double about 6 inches of line and pass it through the eye of the hook.

2. Tie a simple overhand knot in the doubled line, letting the hook hang loose. Avoid twisting the lines.

3. Pull the end of the loop down, passing it completely over the hook.

4. Moisten and pull both ends of the line to draw up the knot. Trim excess.
