Trying to find a repeatable method for triggering a thermal event on 2170 lithium ion battery cells. This cell was charged to 100% SOC, then heated to 125 deg C over 15 minutes using an external resistive heater. The cell was not discharged during the test, so that it would have as much stored energy as possible. Eventually we will be testing different battery module designs for their ability to withstand a single cell thermal event, without propagating to the surrounding cells. Glad I was wearing long sleeved welding gloves and full face shield!
