University student, Anna, was walking home after work when she was attacked and murdered.

This is how detectives tracked down the killer, piecing together his movements and motivation, arresting him within 22 hours of the attack.

Thanks to their fast-paced and detailed investigative work, he faces a minimum of 29 years in prison. Detectives recovered murder weapon from a pond and developed crucial evidence linking the suspect to the attack – leading to Dennis Akpomedaye being convicted of murder at court.

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, the senior investigating officer, said: 'My thoughts and sympathies remain with the family and friends of Anna, both in the UK and in Poland, who will never get over the tragic circumstances surrounding her death.'
