Welcome to the fictional town of Cicely, Alaska.. loosely modeled after the actual town of Talkeetna, Alaska. The filming location? Roslyn Washington. Home of the 90’s smash TV hit, Northern Exposure. Some filmingocatio s were actually shot very close to my home, imcluding season one, over near orth Fork Road, and also season four, episode four, near Rattlesnake Lake..
Both locations are mere minutes crom my current home. I often recognize many of the filming locations when watching. So fun to live here!

This, was a very fun day. During winter break, we had two whole days of sunshine, and I couldn’t miss the opportunity to get out here to finally make this video. I’ve wanted to do it for quite some time, but things never seemed to line up to be able to make it over the pass. I’m glad it worked out this way, as the series has recently been released in its entirety in streaming format WITH the original music, which was missing for nearly two decades on the old CD releases due to licensure, costs and legal issues. Of course, I had to find the flavor of the original music, but I think it’s got the right feel.

If you haven’t seen Northern Exposure you should give it a whirl… it isn’t for everyone, but it does deserve due credit for its creativity and its distinctive Pacific Northwest style. Eddie Bauer did quite the business selling parkas with furry hoods back in the day… everyone wanted “the look”. Lol.

I have visited here a few times but my first visit is the one I remember most. Back in 1995 I came to film the Roslyn(‘s) Cafe wall in order to add a clip to a video I was making to send in to the FX Network in New York (it did make it on TV but that’s another story). There is a shot of a large open space in town in this video, which is where we got to watch a scene being shot on that day. The set crew asked us to park up a block because our truck didn’t have Alaska plates. It’s a great memory and I’m so happy to upload this video. It is MUCH easier to film and edit with today’s technology!

As usual, I’m going to let the video tell the story, and I hope you find it fun and entertaining, especially if you’re a fan of the show. Otherwise, Roslyn stands as a wonderful little town rich with old west mining history, and holds the utmost charm as an example of small-town USA. It’s worth a visit, even if to slip in to the Brick for a delicious brisket sandwich and an ice cold beer. Man, that was good!

I hope you like it, and thanks again for hanging in there with me while I learn. Also, special thanks to those who have left such nice comments. I appreciate it and it keeps me going. Enjoy the trip back to 30 years ago… and I’ll catch ya next time!♥️
