Most people already know that you should NOT run mismatched solar panels in parallel, but what about in series?

The quick and dirty answer: YES, with a few drawbacks

You must use a MPPT charge controller (not PWM) so it can take the excess voltage and bring it down to your battery banks voltage. You also will not get the full potential wattage as the smaller panel will be a hindrance to the current. You WILL get a net gain with both panels, but YMMV, this video was purely an example and experiment.

This is not the optimal way to run a solar setup. If your buying brand new, then do yourself a favor and order matching solar panels, the performance and efficiency of the system will be much better.

Now if you inherited or got an unbelievable deal on a mixed batch of solar panels and want to make the best of them, this video shows you that it CAN be done.
