Yaesu FT-818 operated outdoors on HF at Mt French (Qld, Australia).
End fed halfwave antenna tied between trees and a 49:1 UnUn, with 11 meters of coax running on the ground with sheath acting as counterpoise.
This serves as a demonstration that when using this type of antenna, an analyser is a much better investment than an antenna tuner, since the antenna itself is easily tuned (on the rare occasion that tuning is needed). VK4GRA doing the testing at the other end with different power levels. Although I love the equipment, and still have an FT-818 at the time of writing (September 2023), it’s only for listening, and I no longer have a microphone. I was never really into amateur radio in the typical sense of making random contacts, or setting up transmitting stations outdoors, but I’ve done it once!
