Biography; Born in Pennsylvania on November 3, 1921, he faced challenges growing up in a poverty-stricken, Lithuanian-speaking Catholic family. After his father's death, he worked in coal mines from the age of ten, earning a dollar for each ton he mined. Undeterred, he learned English and other languages, and in 1943, he joined the U.S. Air Force as an aerial gunner. Bronson fearlessly flew 25 combat missions against Japan, sustaining an injury and receiving the Purple Heart. After leaving the military in 1946, he used the GI Bill to study art in California, but struggled financially, taking odd jobs and sharing an apartment with Jack Klugman. His breakthrough came with the 1953 film "House of Wax," launching him to stardom in the 1950s and solidifying his tough-guy image in films like "The Great Escape," "Once Upon a Time in the West," and "Death Wish." Despite his success, he carried the scars of his past, including bouts of claustrophobia. Bronson retired after hip surgery and passed away in 2003 at the age of 81, leaving behind a legacy as a charismatic and captivating screen icon. He is buried in Brownsville Cemetery, West Windsor, Vermont.
