During my last year at university, I spent several months photographing, writing and designing a book called ‘Echoes of the Ancients’. It is a project I spoke of many times on my public YouTube and Instagram accounts, yet it has not much seen the light of day since its conception. May marks the one year anniversary since its completion. Only seven copies of this book currently exist physically, in the hands of my friends and family. But Echoes of the Ancients was meant to be my love letter to the historic Cornish landscape I adore. How could I not finally deliver it to the world?

I have every intention in the future to turn this into a short film or series of short films exploring the Cornish landscape through video format, but I do not want to diminish the still images that are integral to this project. It is some of the work I am most proud of. When I picked EotA up off my book shelf for the first time in several months, it rejuvenated by love for photography that has unfortunately dwindled since leaving university and being thrown into the ‘real world’. I have realised I never want to let go of that whimsy part of me that marvels at random stones and says hello to tree as I pass them.

While I haven’t attempted anything as ambitious as this in a long time, and probably won’t for a long time yet, there is joy to be found still in my smaller projects: ‘A Strand of my Soul’, ‘Ode to our Innocence’, ‘Dreamers’… These videos have been very basic videography, but words that came from the heart in the moment or were taken from my beloved poetry notebook. There is more to come yet, and perhaps I can invest more love and time to make them truly great.

Though in my eyes - not to sound too proud - amongst my work, Echoes of the Ancients will always be incomparable.
