The Best compostable case is going to be the Incipio Organicore. BUT it’s not the best case in this video.
At MREH, Monty, Val and I base our reviews on actual usage. We’re rogue reviewers. Which is sad because the definition of rogue in this context is that this channel isn’t bought. Most of these products in the video, I bought myself. Total cost to me in this video? $350 dollars.
I don’t care which one you buy, if you decide to buy one. I just care that the product you buy is based on the best information possible. For most of these cases, there are detailed reviews so check the description section for those reviews.
Here’s a couple of things that plagues everyone of these compostable cases.
-They are color sinks.
-They will fall part quicker than normal cases. Simple drops will result in corners splitting
-Almost every case looks like a fancy bar of soap that uses oatmeals bits for exfoliation.
So let’s start from the bottom up. The next three cases are ones that I’d stay away from. They are all just bad.
Pela Case
Pros
-The OG compostable case?
-Better handling than the average compostable case
Cons
-Excessive hand sanitizer use may shrink the case
-Doesn’t fit the iPhone tightly
-Won’t do much for dust/debris protection
-Won’t offer much face first drop protection
Wilma Eco Essentials
Pros
-I got to pay 299 Kronas for this product. The Krona sounds way cooler than a loonie.
Cons
-Buttons are tough
-Cutouts are sharp. It’s like they forgot to finish the case
-Thinnest case in this list which means less drop protection
-Edges are very noticeable
Caseable Eco Friendly
Pros
-There’s a spot for a wrist strap
Cons
-Buttons are terrible
-Edges are very noticeable
-Finish changes on the case after a couple of months
-Very slick
-Minimal clearance for camera lens
-Case came in a plastic bag
Casetify Conscious
Pros
-Customizable
-Handles better (gets better during the day)
-One of the thicker cases in this list
Cons
-Thin
-Finish at bottom of the case is suspect
UAG Outback
Pros
-Best handling case in this list due to the tapered edge
-Best button access on the case
-Makes your iPhone feel thin
-Best case for those who needs a little bit of protection for their device
Cons
-Seems to wear quicker than other cases in this list
Incipio Organicore
Pros
-Toughest case on this list (also the thickest)
-Handles the best
-iPhone feels solid in the case
Cons
-Buttons are tougher to use
-Edges are mildly noticeable
Let’s talk about the LifeProof Wake.
The wake is made from recycled Ocean plastic. Which means the raw material for the product is already there. That’s a leg up on all these compostable ones that have to use new raw materials in the products.
But with the wake, it’s a rigid case which means it’s going to offer your device more protection. Using actual plastic also allows LifeProof to ensure that your button feel isn’t compromised.
But the bad thing about the wake is that it handles worse than the Organicores and Outbacks, about the same as every other case and the bottom of the iPhone is exposed. So don’t drop it down there.
And the case edges are super noticeable.
