In this video, Jordan Wilson with Caster Headquarters compares the most popular Caster Wheels and Tires commonly used outdoors. Pneumatic Air Filled Tires, Flat Free Tires, and Semi-Pneumatic Tires are all used on equipment, and carts for outdoor applications. Find out which tire we recommend for each application and scenario to help you choose the very best wheel, tire, or caster for your next project or application. Air Filled Pneumatic Tires are one of the most popular used tires in both casters and on different carts and equipment due to the shock-absorbing, cushioned ride that an air-filled tire offers. Other industries that commonly use air-filled pneumatic tires would be the electronic industry to protect expensive electronics, the music industry to protect musical instruments, speakers, and equipment, and band carts in order to protect the brass instruments and band equipment. Pneumatic Air Filled Tires require the most maintenance out of the three different outdoor tires we discuss because they require frequent tire pressure checks and need air periodically for optimal performance. Semi-Pneumatic Tires and Flat Free tires are both great options if you want to eliminate the maintenance that an air-filled tire requires. Semi Pneumatic offers higher weight capacities and does not need air since it is a solid rubber tread with a permanent hollow air pocket in the middle of the tread for added cushion and support. Flat Free Foam Filled Tires are also a great option if you do not want to perform maintenance because their tread is made from micro-cellular polyurethane foam. Foam Filled tires are more expensive than a traditional air-filled tires but they do not require maintenance and they do better in the sun compared to rubber tires. All three tires have their pros and cons and are all suited for each person's individual needs and preferences. Watch this video to find out in detail how the best caster wheels and tires for your cart, lawn mower, hand truck, garden cart, Dollie, band cart, caster, wheelbarrow, or any piece of equipment that needs some better-operating wheels and tires.

Flat Free Tires are made of solid, lightweight, micro-cellular polyurethane foam. Our Flat Free Tires have the bounce and cushion of an air-filled tire with the benefit of no flats. No tubes; no re-filling with air; no more hassle! Our Flat Free Tires are non-marking, and because polyurethane is UV and chemical-resistant, they will not crack or rot as rubber tires do.

Air-filled tires provide great performance and are a less-expensive replacement tire option. Though they require more maintenance, they are cost-effective and provide a great bounce and cushion. Air-filled tires are lightweight and due to their price and performance are often chosen by OEMs for new equipment.

Semi-pneumatic tires are also Flat Free because they don’t go flat, but they do not provide the bounce or cushion of flat-free or air-filled tires. These tires are made of solid rubber with a hollow air pocket through the center of the tire. The air pocket is built into these molded tires, so unlike air-filled tires, they have no tubes or valve stems and cannot be inflated. The air pocket helps keep the price point down and makes the tires lighter in weight than a completely solid tire. Semi-pneumatic tires are generally less expensive than polyurethane tires and are best used on solid flat surfaces that are free from rocks and other debris that might stop a stiff wheel. Semi-pneumatic tires are often used on applications such as industrial hand trucks, lawnmowers, and other small lawn and garden equipment where tire cushion and performance are not as critical.
