The feared emissaries of Sauron, the Nazgûl are terrifying, ghoulish pursuers that seek the Ringbearer at all costs. For their presence, Shore utilizes a motif known simply as the Footsteps of Doom, a simple two note beat that harkens to the ominous mood and encroaching doom of Mordor's forces. Alongside this motif however is an extension of the two note beat that adds an extra note in the presence of the Ringwraiths. The motif is usually performed on strings and brief brass bursts, but heightens to be even more grand and foreboding. But the main attraction of the Nazgûl theme is the text The Revelation of the Ringwraiths, which is sung by a choir and details the wrath and mission of the horsemen clad in black. Their theme is iconic, evoking a sense of terror and fear that is far more grand and cataclysmic than most other motifs in The Lord of the Rings.
