The latest car to feature as one of Collecting Car’s premium offerings is a V12-engined masterpiece; a 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 'Daytona' Berlinetta that was originally owned by a true gentleman racer.

This Ferrari was ordered from the factory via Maranello Concessionaires by Mr Ronnie Symondson, a former member of the Royal Air Force who had become a leading engineer and flight instructor at Brooklands aerodrome after the war.

It was specified in the handsome combination of silver coachwork over a light blue Connolly Vaumol leather interior, and with both a wood-rimmed steering wheel and Borrani wire wheels, making it a genuinely unique example.

Collected in January 1972, this Ferrari was used as intended, with regular services through the early 1970s documented in its superb history file. At one time, the car would no doubt have shared garage space with the ex-Nicholas Embiricos Bugatti Type 57S, also owned by Symondson in that period. Indeed, his association with the Bugatti marque was particularly strong - he is credited with completing the Prescott Speed Hill Climb nearly 2,000 times.

The Daytona is known to have passed through the hands of another owner in the UK before being sold to Alfred Tan’s Hong Seh Ferrari dealership in Singapore - and it remained safely stored but barely used in Asia until 2010.

After being shipped back to the UK, the car was restored with a full bare-metal repaint in early 2011, and extensive mechanical work, before being submitted for Ferrari Classiche Certification, which was granted and issued in December 2012.

Today, the car is still in superb condition. Over the last two years, around £16,000 has been spent with leading Ferrari specialist Bob Houghton to ensure it is in fine mechanical condition. An outstanding example of the famed 'Daytona', it boasts a unique factory specification among the 158 UK-delivered cars, not to mention wonderful provenance.

To celebrate this enthralling 365 GTB/4, Collecting Cars worked in partnership with its enthusiastic owner and automotive cinema specialist Ralle, to create a short film to bring this 1970s grand tourer to life.

From firing up its iconic 4.4-litre Colombo V12 inside the garage, to getting the car up to speed on some of the local rounds around its current residence, the film conveys the sheer joy of driving Ferrari’s famous ‘Daytona’. Shot in wide-angle format, it brings a cinematic style to a remarkable motor car; and with no narration, the characterful 12-cylinder engine is left to do the talking. Horophiles will also note the inclusion of the classic motor-racing inspired watch, the TAG Heuer Monaco, as a nod to sister company Watch Collecting.

The second such film produced by the ‘CC R’ partnership; this new offering is available to other sellers, who can discuss this with the Consignment Team at Collecting Cars.
