I was recently shocked to learn that in Florida’s Polk County, The Bluest Eye was one of 16 books to be taken off the shelves of Public School Libraries. The shock primarily stemmed from the fact that The Bluest Eye was one of Brittany Talissa King’s top book recommendations.

I wanted to learn more about the book and the controversy surrounding it from Brittany herself, who describes The Bluest Eye as one of the most impactful pieces on her life and career.
