Is bigger always better? Jeep thinks so, and it’s bringing back the Grand Wagoneer to prove it.

Jeep’s getting back into the full-size premium SUV segment, with a truck wearing a nameplate last seen in 1991. It goes on sale next summer, but right now, we’re only seeing the concept and getting teasers over its powertrain. Will the production version be a plug-in hybrid, like the concept? And if not, will it be down the road? That’s just part of the “wait and see” approach for this sport-ute.

But it's big, and it'll be expensive. Jeep's initial plans call for a Wagoneer and a longer Grand Wagoneer. While nothing's been said about Canadian pricing, American buyers can expect a US$60,000 starting price for the Wagoneer, and about US$100,000 for a fully loaded Grand Wagoneer. That's a hefty chunk of change, and Jeep plans to battle against the likes of Cadillac and Range Rover.
